Wendy Marks
Wendy studied the oboe and piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before deciding to make her career as a woodwind teacher, specialising in the oboe.
She has many years of teaching experience, working both with individuals and groups, adults and children. Having previously taught flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon all up to Grade 8 standard, her current focus is on intermediate and advanced oboe tuition. She has several past pupils who have gone into the music profession either as a performer or a teacher, and has over 1000 pupil exam passes to her credit.
Wendy has conducted a variety of music groups including recorder ensembles, chamber groups and choirs in the past, and now takes her own orchestra, two wind bands and two Clarinet Choirs in West Oxfordshire as well as conducting Bicester Concert Band.
As a performer, Wendy has always enjoyed both orchestral and chamber playing, and has performed several concertos in London, Birmingham and around Oxfordshire. She is currently a member of Pavlova Winds, Cotswold Chamber Orchestra and plays regularly with the Oxford Sinfonia.
Her love of music is not limited to classical music and she was a member of the progressive folk rock group Mermaid Kiss for several years performing on flute and recorders as well as the oboe and Cor Anglais (and backing vocals and double bass!)
She can be heard on their Etarlis and Another Country albums. Wendy has even found herself performing in a Carpenter’s tribute band.
